The Daily Mail has claimed that the Red Devils are growing increasingly confident that they will capture Rose at some point in the coming months with his situation in north London looking increasingly precarious.

However, Rose’s interview with The Sun newspaper turned out to spark an uproar, as he questioned the club’s wage structure, and then openly admitted that he would be happy to move away from the White Hart Lane outfit. While he has been hugely impressed with Ashley Young’s adjustment to the position, with the England global set to be rewarded with a new contract, the United boss knows it remains a compromise and that he will need more bodies in the second half of the season.

It is rumoured that the England worldwide was close to a move to Old Trafford in the summer, but his knee injury was the dealbreaker to such aspiration.

Rose, 27, was an inconsistent talent before Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as Spurs boss in 2014, but he has now emerged as one of English football’s top defenders.

The England global has only started two of the past seven matches in the Premier League, and has been an unused sub in three of those clashes.

Rose has only recently returned from a long-term knee injury which ended United’s interest in him during the summer, but he has struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting lineup since making his comeback. With Rose now fit again, the ex-Chelsea and Inter Milan gaffer wants to bring him to the north west to cement the left-back berth as his own.

There is also the possibility, of Luke Shaw, who is out of favour with Mourinho, being included as part of the deal as Pochettino is a fan of the former Southampton star.
